Children's Maypole Dance
The traditional opening of the fair
The fair opens with the beloved Children's Maypole dance — a centuries-old tradition that sets the tone for the whole day. Watch as children weave colourful ribbons around the maypole in a display of skill and joy that has delighted visitors for generations. We also have the pleasure to have our County Councillor for Hertford Rural Ken Crofton say a few words of thanks and cut the opening tape for the opening of our historic fair event.
Live Band — Benefit of the Tape
Live music all afternoon under the big marquee
Get ready to dance! Our brilliant live band plays in the afternoon from the main stage marquee, filling the area with fantastic music. Whether you're throwing shapes on the grass, sipping a cocktail on a hay bale, or watching the kids chase bubbles — the band keeps the energy going all day long. One of the most loved parts of the fair!

Tug of War
Children's, Women's & Men's competitions
One of the highlights of the fair — the tug of war brings out the best in everyone! We run separate competitions for children, women, and men, so there's a chance for the whole family to get involved. It's all about spirit, strength, and a lot of laughter. Prizes for the winners, glory for all.
Wood Fired Pizzas
Fresh pizzas from the Cheeky Pizza wood-fired van
Treat yourself to a freshly made wood-fired pizza from the brilliant Cheeky Pizza van! Using a traditional wood-fired oven, they cook up delicious pizzas right in front of you. A real crowd favourite — the smell alone will draw you in.

Hop aboard the tractor and trailer for a delightful ride through the village lanes just outside Benington Lordship, passing by the historic Benington Church. A wonderful experience for children and adults alike — a real taste of rural Hertfordshire.
Pony Rides
Meet, stroke and ride our friendly ponies!
Little ones will absolutely love our pony rides and petting area! Climb aboard a gentle Shetland pony for a guided ride around the ring, or simply head to the petting pen to meet and greet our adorable miniature ponies up close. Supervised by experienced handlers throughout — fully insured, smiles guaranteed for the whole family!
Kindly managed by A Helping Hoof — an alternative provision that offers equine assisted support and mentoring sessions to children and young people. We want to support children to learn about horses, relax in a calm outdoor environment and build connections with our furry friends.
Coconut Shy
Knock 'em down and win a prize!
